Vaccine delivery motors forward with BSW CCG community vaccination bus initiative

A new mobile vaccination clinic took to the Swindon streets on Friday 23 April in a bid to target those yet to take up the offer of a COVID vaccine.

The bus began its route in Swindon and is planned to tour Bath, North East Somerset, and Wiltshire. It is the first of its kind in the region and is part of the Bath and North East, Swindon and Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group's (BSW CCG) targeted response to high vaccine hesitancy and low uptake in communities.

It is hoped that by bringing healthcare professionals into the heart of the community, residents will be more inclined to take up the offer and feel more comfortable discussing their concerns.

Gill May, Director of Nursing and Quality, shared the importance of reaching everyone when it comes to vaccination and providing a safe space for people to raise their concerns;

“We would hate for any person to put off getting protected as a result of misinformation, which is why our mobile vaccination clinic not only provides a space in which vaccines can be given close to home but also a setting in which queries and concerns can be discussed openly and honestly with our teams of healthcare experts."

“The coronavirus vaccine has been designed to protect us all from a disease that does not discriminate, and I hope many people will benefit from this new service and, in turn, help stop the spread of COVID-19 among all local communities."

Information on the local rollout of the vaccination programme can be found online at www.bswccg.nhs.uk, while details on the vaccine itself can be found at either www.nhs.uk or www.gov.uk

Note - The mobile vaccination bus clinic is only intended for those who have previously declined vaccination or who have been unsure if to proceed with their vaccination invite.

Therefore, details of the bus's location will only be shared with specific communities through ongoing outreach work happening with community leaders, faith groups, and public health workers.
