COVID-19 Vaccination rollout in Swindon

As numbers having their COVID-19 vaccine increase, we share a few pictures of local residents receiving theirs and chat to one of them about their experience. Along with advice on how to attend your vaccination appointment if you lack transport.

Local resident, 83-year-old, Gwendoline Smith receives her first COVID-19 vaccine from Dr. Heaton at the STEAM Museum.

Speaking of the experience, Mrs. Gwendoline Smith shared,

"The experience was very good. It was very well organised. I didn't feel a thing."

Adding with a laugh, "I am still waiting for it."

If you have a vaccination appointment booked and do not have transport available to you, help maybe at hand from V Cars.

As the UK government aims to fulfill its ambition of vaccinating the top four priority groups by mid-February, V Cars will offer, for free, journeys to and from your appointment to make sure that as few appointments are missed as possible.

Please let your local GP know if you want to use the free service, it can then be booked at the same time as your vaccination appointment. *Subject to availability. Terms and conditions apply. See website for further details: https://www.v-cars.com/covid-19/passengers/

The STEAM Museum is the perfect venue for vaccinations, as it provides the necessary space required to maintain social distancing and avoid crowding. I would like to reassure everyone that you will be contacted when it is your turn to be vaccinated. This way we can manage numbers of patients and vaccines effectively.

Great Western Hospital volunteer and Healthwatch Swindon volunteer, Nazma Bibi Ramruttun receives her COVID-19 vaccine.

Nazma's advice after receiving the injection was simple;

"If you are offered the vaccine you must take it. It is pain-free and can help turn the tide of the pandemic."
