The term safeguarding can be confusing but as a volunteer it is important for you to understand what this means and what you need to do if you come across a safeguarding concern.

    What is Safeguarding?

Safeguarding is about protecting children and vulnerable adults from abuse and neglect, which can be:

    • physical,
    • emotional,
    • sexual and
    • financial

During lockdown these issues may get worse so its vital you know what to look out for and who to contact if you do notice a problem.

Watch this short video from Waltham Forest Council, which explains in simple terms exactly what Safeguarding is. Remember: if you see something, say something.
