Phoenix Surgery in Toothill will soon join forces with a neighbouring GP practice in a move that draws a line under the involvement of the Integrated Medical Holdings Group (IMH) with primary care in Swindon.

New provider

From Sunday 1 December, Park Lane Practice will be taking over the management of Phoenix Surgery, which had previously been in partnership with IMH.

The new venture will see patient calls to Phoenix Surgery taken out of IMH’s centralised call centre and re-routed back to staff working in the practice itself.

Details of how and when the switch will take place will be made in due course but, for now, patients are kindly asked to continue booking appointments using the current process.

Phoenix Surgery is the last of the five Swindon practices previously involved with IMH to be paired with a new provider organisation.

The other practices – Abbey Meads Medical Group, Moredon Medical Centre, Taw Hill Medical Practice and Eldene Surgery – have already either started working with their new providers or have plans in place to begin working from an agreed date in the next few weeks.

This is a significant moment, and marks the beginning of the end of what has been an extremely difficult time for patients and their families in accessing services.

Nicki Millin, Director of Strategy and Transformation, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire CCGs

“While the CCG had no influence or involvement in bringing IMH to Swindon, when it became apparent that things were not meeting the standard that we and our patients expected, appropriate action was taken, and it was this that led to firm’s withdrawal.

“Having communicated with patients, and learning from past experiences, we knew that any new providers had to be Swindon-based and part of the wider NHS family, and we are delighted to have been able to achieve this for each of the practices.

“Our priority now is to continue supporting the practices wherever appropriate, while also allowing them the space to grow and improve, and we hope patients will soon begin to see the re-emergence of a primary care service they can be proud of and have faith in.”
