A fourth tier of restrictions was introduced on 20 December 2020
In the future, the government will only reintroduce formal shielding advice in the very worst affected local areas and for a limited period of time. Currently, this only applies to those areas in Tier 4.
People who are clinically extremely vulnerable in Tier 4 will be written to, setting out the new guidance.
The letter will also act as a note to employers to say that, if they cannot work from home, they are advised not to go to work. They may be eligible for Statutory Sick Pay, Employment and Support Allowance, Universal Credit, or the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (furlough).
An example of the shielding letter can be downloaded here.
This guidance will remain in place until 18 January 2021, when it will be reviewed.
