When developing a new policy or considering a change to existing policies, processes or practices, it is important that there is ongoing consultation and engagement between decision makers and stakeholders. It is especially important for those who would be affected by, or those who have a particular interest in, the new policy or change in policy to be consulted.
In recent guidance the government has made clear that it will continue to hold formal 12 week consultation where legally required to, but will move to an approach where they look to do more continuous engagement throughout the whole change process. This may mean that local organisations start to do the same.
But where major decisions are needed Healthwatch will be promoting consultations so people can have their input.
